Houston Area Women's Center (HAWC)
Since 2019, Cooper has held annual International Women’s Day (IWD) toiletry donation drives in support of the Houston Area Women’s Center. The drive, held in March of each year, ensures HAWC is supplied with ample toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, etc.) for residents and program participants. HAWC is more than just a call center, it is an agency working to help and aid women escaping abuse. In 1977, HAWC started with just a few donated phone lines to answer calls from women in need, they now have:
- 190+ paid staff
- Residential emergency shelter
- A 24/7 hotline call center
- A volunteer base of more than 1,000 people
There are many ways the community can help support HAWC. HAWC accepts in-mind and monetary donations and encourages volunteering efforts that drive awareness to the epidemic of domestic violence. Many support opportunities are available to the public:
