When Cooper returned to independent operation in 2019, company leadership made it no secret that the Houston-based original equipment manufacturer (O.E.M.) of such stalwart brands as Cooper-Bessemer, AJAX, Superior, and Gemini would be changing! Almost immediately, the company began making substantial investments to grow its portfolio and strengthen customer ties. Continuing its evolution, Cooper has introduced the Emerging Legends Series – a lineup of new products and services designed to optimize legacy engines and compressor assets, helping customers extend the life of their equipment, while also bringing environmentally sustainable solutions to the industry.

The Emerging Legends Series expands Cooper’s portfolio by introducing two new after-sales support product service lines: Caterpillar G3600 and Waukesha VHP; adding three new products: Extended Life Power Piston Rings, Electrolytic Hard Iron Plating for Power Cylinders, and Dual-Coated Power Pistons; and creating two new service offerings: Field Machining and Compressor Repackaging.

Cooper Acquires Archrock’s Turbocharger Division

Cooper Acquires Archrock

Turbocharger Solutions International (TSI) emerges as Cooper’s new service extension

Cooper Machinery Services has acquired the turbocharger division of Archrock Services. The move allows Cooper to form a new turbocharger division, known as Turbocharger Solutions International (TSI). The division comprises Cooper’s turbine specialties team in Salina, Kansas, and Archrock’s McPherson, Kansas, division. No financial details were announced.

“We’re very pleased today to bring these two fine turbocharger teams together,” said Mitch Opat, TSI’s leader. “We’ve been spirited competitors for many years. Together, we will drive value and improve the customer experience.”

TSI will focus on providing new and repaired turbochargers for ABB, Caterpillar, Clark, Cooper, Delaval, Elliott and others, the company said.

The new addition to the Cooper family comes nearly two years after Archrock expanded its turbocharger facility in McPherson, Kansas. The expansion gave Archrock’s Turbocharger Group 26,750 sq. ft. (2485 m2) of work space for its turbocharger operations.

The facility, which has an additional 15,000 sq. ft. (1394 m2) of warehouse and inventory space, handles the manufacturing, remanufacturing, repairs and testing of turbochargers for the gas compression, power generation and petrochemical industries, among many others. The company held an open house for the facility on Oct. 17, 2018.

The acquisition, its fifth in 10 months, gives Cooper another service extension to its already diverse portfolio. After emerging from the former Baker Hughes, a GE Company’s (BHGE’s) reciprocating compression division last summer, Cooper went on to purchase four companies in five months – Epic International, Reciprocating Technology Services (RTS)Sinor Engine Co. and Hoerbiger’s Engine Legacy Solutions business.

“We’re adding companies that accomplish the same goals we have,” Sargent said in an earlier interview with COMPRESSORTECH2. “We’re trying to put all the pieces back together and be the best we can be.”

HOUSTON, Feb 20 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Cooper Machinery Services (“Cooper”), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management and the former Reciprocating Compression division of Baker Hughes, today announced the strategic acquisition of Energy Dynamics, LLC (EnDyn). Cooper Machinery Services Completes Four Acquisitions In Four Months

John Sargent took the reins of Cooper Machinery Services (Cooper), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, in September 2019 and made it very clear that his plan was to “rebuild Cooper into the market leader once again.” Four months into his tenure as CEO, Sargent has closed on four acquisitions, with two coming in the early days of the new year – Sinor Engine Company and Hoerbiger’s Engine Legacy Solutions.

According to Cooper, the acquisitions better position the company as a technical leader of mission-critical compression and engine systems. “Four in four” is a monumental achievement for Cooper, but Arcline’s tenacity deserves recognition as well. John Sargent didn’t hesitate to extend credit, noting that “Arcline has made every financial and strategic effort to support us as we move this business back to prominence in the compression industry.”

Cooper isn’t just buying companies for the sake of headlines, it’s putting the pieces together as part of a broader growth strategy. Cooper’s acquisitions of Epic International’s (Epic) energy services business and Reciprocating Technology Services (RTS) in late September provided a way for Cooper to strengthen its position in aftermarket parts and services. RTS specialized in service and repairs and has interjected a heavy emphasis on speed-to-market into the Cooper field service culture. Epic maintained a large service organization but was also a manufacturer of hard iron engine parts for brands such as Cooper-Bessemer, Ingersoll, Clark, and Worthington. The acquisitions consolidated the marketplace and gave Cooper …
